TUNA FISHING

Season: Year Round

Common Names: Yellowfin, Ahi, Bonita,Aku, skip-jack tuna

When tuna fishing in Guam we target 2 species.  The Bonita or Skip-jack Tuna, and the sought after Yellowfin Tuna.

Tuna season for us is a year-round fishery.  The Bonita is the most common for us and is usually a bit smaller but we can catch in abundance.  The Yellowfin Tuna is mostly caught early in the morning and later in the day.

When targeting yellowfin we try to get out to the southern banks and have special techniques to try to put this fish on the deck.  It is one of the most difficult species to target on Guam but is also one of the most prized fish.
